Information regarding learning opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities
Individuals aged 16 and older who have special educational needs due to a mild intellectual disability and who have completed or studied under an individualised basic education programme before the age of 16 (up to age 16 education according to general education programmes is compulsory), a social skills programme, an adapted basic education programme, or a special education programme, or a special basic education programme may be admitted.
Which vocational training programmes can be chosen?
Individuals with special educational needs due to a mild intellectual disability, may choose vocational training programmes that do not require a specific educational background and whose state code begins with the symbols P20…
Some vocational training programmes are implemented together with a social skills development programme (these are open to individuals who have not previously studied under such a programme).

Are there any other learning opportunities?
A person can choose to study in general education schools that offer the social skills programme, provided they have not yet studied under this programme (the programme is available for people up to the age of 21, in special cases up to the age of 23).
Social services for people with disabilities who lack sufficient abilities and need support are provided in all municipalities of the country.
Other relevant information
An application to study in formal vocational training programmes must be submitted online through the “Mokausi Lietuvoje” website. All information related to admission (admission dates, offered vocational training programmes, etc.) is published there.
Assistance needed to submit the application is provided by vocational training institutions.
When a person filling in the application for formal vocational training programmes indicates that the applicant has special educational needs, the system suggests vocational training programmes suitable for the applicant.
Students are admitted to study if their educational background meets the requirements set in the vocational training programmes.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW!
- Registration, application submission, and corrections are free of charge.
- There are no entrance exams for those wishing to study in vocational training institutions.
- Before choosing a formal vocational training programme, it is advisable to contact a medical institution for a health examination and request the medical certificate required for applicants to educational institutions and employed minors (form 086/a).
- After admission to the chosen formal vocational training programme, this medical certificate must be submitted to the vocational training institution, confirming that the person is able to study in the selected vocational training programme.
